Is it Normal to Feel Overwhelmed as a Mum?

You’re not the only one asking.

It might be the third time you’ve lost it this week. Or a day when nothing went wrong, and you still felt like you were drowning. Or the moment you snapped over something tiny and thought, what is wrong with me?

Here’s the first thing worth knowing. Overwhelm is one of the most common feelings in motherhood. It just isn’t one of the most talked about.

Most mums carry it quietly. At the school gate everyone seems fine. Online everyone looks like they’re coping. So you assume it’s only you.

It isn’t.

Think about what you’re holding. Other people’s needs, all day. Decisions nobody else sees. A running list that never quite empties. Of course it tips over sometimes.

So what can you do with it?

Not fix it. Not make it disappear. Start by noticing when it’s building.

The shoulders creeping up. The voice getting tighter. The thought, “I can’t do one more thing.” Those are the moments before the overflow. They’re easy to miss, and they’re where your choice lives.

You won’t catch it every time. Sometimes you’ll only notice afterwards. That counts too. Noticing afterwards is how you start noticing sooner.

And one honest thing, from one mother to another. If it feels heavier than everyday overwhelm… if it’s there most days, if it’s getting darker, if you can’t find your way back up… please talk to someone. Your doctor, a counsellor, someone you trust. That isn’t failing. It’s looking after the person everyone else relies on.

For the everyday kind, the kind that comes and goes with the noise, you’re not broken. You’re a mother carrying a lot, learning to notice where it spills.

I made something small for the moment it starts to build.

A Micro-Reset wallpaper for your phone. A prompt that gives you a pause between the trigger and the reaction, right in the middle of your real life. Not a course. Nothing to keep up with. No promise you’ll feel calm.

I’m giving one away free to real mothers right now.

The wallpaper doesn’t do the work. You do. But it’ll help you notice sooner.

Learn as you live.
